When I arrived at Minidoka National Historic Site, I expected to learn about history. I expected to see photographs, artifacts, and reconstructed buildings that told the story of one of America's ten War Relocation Authority camps during World War II. I wasn't expecting to spend so much time thinking about choices. Who do we become when life takes away the choices we wanted and leaves us only with the choices we still have?

High above the San Juan River in southeastern Utah stands the Jason R. Workman Memorial Bridge. To many travelers, it's simply the bridge leading into Mexican Hat. But behind its name is the story of a young Navy SEAL whose life of courage, sacrifice, and service continues to be remembered by those who pass this way.
