The Jason R. Workman Memorial Bridge

High above the San Juan River in southeastern Utah stands the Jason R. Workman Memorial Bridge. To many travelers, it's simply the bridge leading into Mexican Hat. But behind its name is the story of a young Navy SEAL whose life of courage, sacrifice, and service continues to be remembered by those who pass this way.

In this first episode of Journeys: Discoveries, Rachel explores how a simple stop on a road trip became the beginning of a much deeper journey. What started as curiosity about a bridge's name unfolded into a story about remembrance, military service, and the importance of preserving the stories hidden within the places we visit.

But this episode is about more than one bridge.

It's about how places preserve memory.

From Utah's canyon country to Australia, Japan, and Bosnia, Rachel reflects on the ways bridges become symbols of remembrance, sacrifice, healing, and connection.

This episode is an invitation to slow down, look beyond the landmarks, and discover the people whose lives continue to shape the landscapes around us.

In This Episode

The story behind the Jason R. Workman Memorial Bridge

Who was Jason R. Workman?

The significance of memorial bridges and why communities dedicate them

Why every place has stories waiting to be discovered

How curiosity can transform the way we experience travel

Key Takeaway

The most meaningful journeys aren't always measured by miles traveled.

Sometimes they begin with a simple question:

"Who was this person?"

And that question has the power to change the way we see a place forever.
